Dr. McColgan is a surgical innovator and medical device developer who has made an impact on a global scale. Trained in Boston, Massachusetts, Dr. McColgan graduated Summa Cum Laude with distinction from Boston University, and he received his MBA from the University of California Irvine. Dr. McColgan became one of the first surgeons to perform laparoscopic and advanced laparoscopic surgery in Southern California. He had a successful surgical practice in the Long Beach area for more than 20 years.
Dr. McColgan was Chairman of the Department of Surgery for Bellflower Medical Center for more than 10 years and was a founding member of Endodynamix, Inc., a manufacturer of surgical instruments. Dr. McColgan is licensed in both California and Massachusetts and actively practices in both states. He has a faculty appointment at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine.
Dr. McColgan’s pioneering work has expanded internationally. He pioneered laparoscopic surgery in Southeast Asia including in Thailand, creating a laparoscopic center of excellence with industry leaders performing basic to advanced laparoscopic surgery. When the Berlin Wall fell, Dr. McColgan worked to bring former East German Hospitals up to U.S. standards for Helios Healthcare Systems.
